  2. swimmer since Mark Spitz. Like Mark,
  3. MattΓÇÖs best strokes were the freestyle
  4. and butterfly. Matt won his first Olympic
  5. medal, a gold, in the 4 x 100-meter relay
  6. at the 1984 Olympics. At the 1988
  7. Olympics, Matt won seven medals: five
  8. gold (in the 50-meter and 100-meter
  9. freestyles, in the 400-meter and 800-
  10. meter freestyle relays, and in the 400-
  11. meter medley relay), a silver (in the 
  12. 100-meter butterfly), and a bronze (in
  13. the 200-meter freestyle). At the 1992
  14. Olympics, Matt won three medals
  15. -- bringing his Olympic total to 11 -- to
  16. tie Mark Spitz!
